Explanation :
- The NGT was established on October 18, 2010 under the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010, passed by the Central Government and so, it is a statutory body.
- With the enactment of the NGT Act, civil courts cannot hear matters related to environmental issues under the seven laws (Schedule 1 of NGT Act) which the NGT is empowered to deal with.
- It is not bound by the procedure laid down under the Code of Civil Procedure, 1908, but shall be guided by the principle of natural justice. It has been made so, so that environmentalists can approach the NGT with ease and shall not worry much about the evidences.
