Explanation :
Corals are the living polyps that are in symbiotic relationship with the Zooxanthella. Zooxanthella is an algae that provides the food to the polyps through photosynthesis and in turn the polyps provide them the place to stay i.e. reefs. Hence, it is very evident that this relationship is an excellent example of symbiotic relationship. This reef (which is created by the secretion of calcium carbonates by the polyps for very long period) creates the beautiful place for other organism to survive and thrive, hence corals is also an excellent example for ‘foundational species’.
