The National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP) 2020 is a National Mission document providing the vision and the roadmap for the faster adoption of electric vehicles and their manufacturing in the country.

  • Under this NEMMP the Government on 1st April 2015 launched Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME) – India Scheme.
  • The scheme was launched as part of the National Mission for Electric Mobility to boost eco-friendly vehicles sales in the country.
  • The major objective of this scheme was to support the hybrid or electric vehicles market development and its manufacturing eco-system in the country in order to achieve self-sustenance in stipulated period.
  • It was implemented in phases. The Phase-I was implemented over a two year period 2015-17. However, several extensions were allowed with the final one sanctioned till March 31, 2019.
  • The second phase of this (FAME India phase II) scheme is commenced on April 1, 2019 for a period of three years.
  • In year 2021, total 1.4 lakh Electric vehicles (1.19 Lakh electric two wheelers, 20,420 electric three wheelers and 580 electric four wheelers) have been incentivized upto 16 December 2021 amounting to incentive of about Rs 500 Crore under Phase-II of FAME. Total 1.85 lakh Electric Vehicles have been incentivized under FAME II till 2021.
