Scheme for Higher Education Youth for Apprenticeship and Skills (SHREYAS)

It was launched in 2019 and aims to enhance the employability of Indian youth by providing ‘on the job exposure’ and earning of stipend.

  • General graduates would be provided apprenticeship through the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS).
  • The scheme aims to target 50 lakh youth by 2022.
  • Such schemes are needed as they help in reducing the deficit in skills required and educational qualification imparted.
  • The only challenge government may face here is, such schemes target only a miniscule population. To reap in the benefits of demographic dividend, academic curriculum must be designed as per industrial requirements.
