STARS Scheme (Scheme for Translational and Advanced Research in Science)

It was launched in February, 2019 with the objective of taking stock of the existing problems and work backwards towards conducting research for a solution.

  • It was launched by MoHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India) and is being implemented, monitored and managed by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
  • Several priority areas for socially relevant research have been identified under the following six basic thrust domains: Physics, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Nano Sciences, Data Science and Mathematics, and Earth Sciences.
  • All Higher Educational institutions viz., the MHRD – funded technical institutes (IISc, IITs, IISERs, NITs) and Central Universities and Non-MHRD funded institutions with NIRF ranking within 100 or NAAC 3.26 and above (colleges or universities) are eligible to apply for the project.
