National Civil Aviation Policy, 2016: Key Components

  • The centre-piece of the policy is to make regional air connectivity a reality.
  • The policy aims to take flying to the masses by making it affordable and convenient. Vision is to enhance ticketing from 8cr currently to 30 cr by 2022 and 50 cr by 2030.
  • Aim is to establish an integrated eco-system which will lead to significant growth of the civil aviation sectorto promote tourism, employment and balanced regional growth.
  • Enhance regional connectivity through fiscal support and infrastructure development.
  • Enhance ease of doing business through deregulation, simplified procedures and e-governance.

Disinvestment of Air India

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) in its meeting held on 28.06.2017 has given in-principle approval for considering strategic disinvestment of Air India and its five subsidiaries and constitution of Air India Specific Alternative Mechanism. To implement the decision of CCEA, appointment of Transaction Adviser, Legal Adviser and Asset Valuer shall be taken up as per terms and conditions and scope of work of Advisers/ Valuer in accordance with the model RFPs suggested by the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management.
