Challenges Faced by Mining Sector in India

  • Administrative disruptions are also a challenge that should be cured for growth of mining industry. Rampant corruptions, red-tapism, low transparency, arbitrary allocation of blocks etc. are some of the concerns that are causing the mining sector in troubled water.

Conclusion

There is significant scope for new mining capacities in iron ore, bauxite and coal and considerable opportunities for future discoveries of sub- surface deposits. There is a need for an expedition of the clearance process for the judicious utilization of mineral resources.

Infrastructure projects continue to provide lucrative business opportunities for steel, zinc and aluminium producers. Aluminium production is forecasted to grow to 3.33 million metric tonnes by financial year 2020. Iron and steel make up a core component of the real estate sector. Demand for these metals is set to continue given strong growth expectations for the residential and commercial building industry. There is a need for an expedition of the clearance process for the judicious utilization of mineral resources. Proper environmental impact assessment (EIA) and social impact assessment (SIA) must be conducted before allocating the projects.
