Global Gender Gap Report 2020

The index is released by World Economic Forum (WEF) in its Global Gender Gap report and aims to measure gender equality. The index is measured on four dimensions - Economic participation and opportunity; Educational attainment; Health and Survival; and Political Empowerment.

  • The index ranked India at 112th among 153 countries while noting that India has been able to cover 2/3rd (66%) of gender gap. India being only country of the assessed countries of having a wider economic gap than political gap.
  • India performed better in political empowerment (18th) and performed poorly on economic participation (117th), educational attainment (112th) and health (150th).
  • Scandinavian countries ranked top – Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden are top four.
