Inland Vessels (Prevention and Control of Pollution and Protection of Inland Water) Rules, 2016

This rule came into existence because a decision was taken for re-writing of Inland Vessel Act taking into consideration of the development with respect to the increase in the size, capacity & types of Inland Vessels, design & construction, need for qualified, experienced and competent crew for safe manning & operation, the requirement of stringent safety during construction and operation with relevant statutory safety appliances, prevention & control of pollution from the vessel etc., for replacing the existing Inland Vessel Act of 1917.

  • The Inland Vessels (Prevention and Control of Pollution and Protection of Inland Water) Rules, 2016 covers the Preamble and has 16 parts i.e. Part I to Part XVI, that defines different aspects like administrative processes, central and state government’s enabling powers, liability clauses etc.
