Internet Security Threat Report

Symantec’s 2019 Internet Security Threat Report takes a deep dive into insights from the world’s largest civilian global intelligence network, revealing:

  • Formjacking attacks skyrocketed, with an average of 4,800 websites compromised each month.
  • Ransomware shifted targets from consumers to enterprises, where infections rose 12 percent.
  • More than 70 million records stolen from poorly configured S3 buckets, a casualty of rapid cloud adoption.
  • Supply chains remained a soft target with attacks ballooning by 78 percent.
  • Smart speaker, get me a cyber-attack” – IoT (Internet of Things) was a key entry point for targeted attacks; most IoT devices are vulnerable.

Threat on India

  • India ranks third with nearly six per cent of global detections of formjacking.
  • In the Malicious Email Rate by country, India is found to have 772, whereas in Email Phishing Rate it is 5,707.
  • In the country list of Top Ransomware, India (14.3 percent) is only behind to China (16.9 percent) and USA is at third place with 13.0 percent.
  • In the list of Countries for mobile malware, also India is at second place with 23.6 percent after USA (with 24.7 percent).
  • Countries that are affected by targeted attack groups in the duration between 2016 to 2018, India is placed at second with 128 attacks, after the USA (with 255 attacks in the same duration).
