Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat Scheme

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas launched country-wide Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat scheme in 2017 to distribute LPG connections to the rural households where conventional fuel is used for domestic purposes and to give a boost to the existing Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). It was launched as a back-up scheme of PMUY at Mota Ishanpur village in Gandhinagar district in Gujarat.

  • The scheme aims to create awareness about the benefits of replacing the conventional fuels like cow-dung, wood, charcoal etc, with LPG. And therefore the ASHA workers, officials of PSUs, individual social workers, NGOs and others were involved in connecting the beneficiaries to the PMUY.
  • These LPG Panchayats served as an interactive platform where issues relating to the safe practices for use of LPG, the quality of services provided by the distributors and availability of the refill cylinders etc. matters are discussed and the relevant solutions are provided.
