It was constituted in 2014 with Shri R. Ramanujam, as Chairperson and Shri V.K. Bhasin, as a Member of the committee which were asked to suggest old and obsolete law which could be removed. The committee submitted its report in the same year.
The committee recommended removal of 1741 laws. These were termed as obsolete/irrelevant. The government is still considering the recommendations of the committee.
