Tele-Law Initiative partnered with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)

It was launched in 2017 with the aim of facilitating delivery of legal advice through an expert panel of lawyers – stationed at the State Legal Services Authorities (SLSA).

  • The project would connect lawyers with clients through video conferencing facilities by the Para-legal volunteers stationed at Common Service Centres (CSCs) run by Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs).
  • Additionally, the initiative will also serve as an opportunity to build capacity of 1000 women Para Legal Volunteers (PLV).
  • These Para Legal Volunteers (PLV) will be the first point of contact for the rural citizens and will help them in understanding the legal issues, explain the advice given by lawyers and assist in further action required in cases as per the advice of the lawyer.
  • The project is launched across 1800 panchayats throughout India. As of December 2019, more than 150000 cases have been registered out of which 141000 have enabled advice and rest are active or in process.
