US ends Waiver Granted on Iranian Oil

On 22nd April, 2019 US President decided to end sanctions waiver granted to India and seven other countries which import Iranian oil.

  • US wants to cripple the Iranian economy by squeezing its sources of revenue in order to force the country into halting its discreet nuclear development programme and its support for Islamist terror groups.
  • Indian Response to the Ban: In response to the lifting of waivers, India has decided to diversify its sources of oil import and curb its oil dependency on Iran. India is working with other oil producing nations, including the United States, to find ways to protect India’s energy and economic security interests.
