Army Establishes Quantum Lab and AI Centre

Recently, the Indian Army, with support from the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS), has established a Quantum Lab and a centre for Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Military College of Telecommunication Engineering, Mhow, Madhya Pradesh.

Advantages: It facilitates the completion of cryptographic tasks that are proven to be impossible using classical communication. Quantum cryptography has the potential to encrypt data for longer periods than classical cryptography.

Significance: The key thrust areas of research at the centre will be quantum key distribution, quantum communication and quantum computing, among others.

  • The research undertaken by the centre in the field of quantum technology will help advance into the next generation of communication.
  • It will transform the current system of cryptography to post-quantum cryptography.
