C 295 aircraft is being built by the Tata-Airbus consortium for Indian Air Force. It is the first project of its kind in which a military aircraft will be manufactured in India by a private company.
Significance: It is a transport aircraft with 5 to 10-tonne capacity. It can be used for quick reaction and para-dropping of troops and cargo. C 295 will replace the IAF’s ageing Avro-748 planes which was inducted in early 1960s.
