Hattis of Himachal Pradesh

The Centre is set to consider the Himachal Pradesh government’s request for inclusion of the Hatti community in the list of Scheduled Tribes in the state.

About Hattis: The Hattis are a close-knit community who got their name from their tradition of selling homegrown vegetables, crops, meat and wool, etc. at small markets called ‘haat’ in towns. The Hatti community is demographically spread in four assembly constituencies of the Sirmour district in Himachal Pradesh – Shillai, Paonta, Renuka and Pachhad.

Impact: The action will assist around 3 lakh people in 154 panchayats in the state's trans-Giri region.

  • Granting the ST status would ensure that our people come into the mainstream and ensure a special budget for the area’s overall development.
