It was setup by Supreme Court in 2011 post looking into the plight of poor skills amongst elementary teachers. The commission was asked to review teacher education in India and come up with reforms.
The commission recommended complete overhauling of teacher’s education system.
Various initiatives have been taken to improve teacher’s skill like Diksha Portal, National Teacher Platform etc. on the recommendations of Verma commission report.
