National Disaster Management Plan, 2019

The National Disaster Management Plan released in November 2019 is a revised version of National Disaster Management Plan, 2016. Following changes were introduced in the new plan -

Three Cross Cutting Themes –

  1. Coherence and mutual reinforcement of three post-2015 global frameworks i.e. Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (2015-2030), Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Paris Climate Agreement.
  2. Social inclusion
  3. Mainstreaming of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR)

Sections added for following hazards –

  • Thunderstorm, Lightning, Squall, Dust Storm, and Strong Wind
  • Cloudburst and Hailstorms
  • Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF)
  • Heat wave
  • Biological and Public Health Emergencies (BPHE)
  • Forest Fire Hazard.
