NITI Aayog

The NITI Aayog serves as the apex public policy think tank of the Government of India. It is the nodal agency which is responsible for catalyzing economic development, and fostering cooperative federalism through the involvement of State Governments of India in the economic policy-making process using a bottom-up approach.

Composition: A Governing Council consisting of Chief Ministers of all the States and Union territories with Legislatures and lieutenant governors of Union Territories (except Delhi and Puducherry).

• Regional Councils, consisting of Chief Ministers of States and Lt. Governors of Union Territories in the region.
• It is chaired by the Prime Minster and consists of a Vice-Chairperson, a Chief Executive Officer and other specialists and experts from various fields.

Objectives: To evolve a shared vision of national development priorities, sectors and strategies with the active involvement of States.
