PM Poshan Shakti Nirman Scheme

According to official records, around 65 % of 24.95 laid Cook-Cum-Helpers (CCHs) engaged under PM Poshan Shakti Nirman or PM POSHAN (earlier Mid-Day Meal) are paid less than 2,000/month.

  • Launched in September, 2021, PM-POSHAN is a scheme for providing one hot cooked meal in Government and Government-aided schools from 2021-22 to 2025-26.

Benefits: Checking Malnutrition: It will help address malnutrition among school-going children in the country. The programme through the targets will strive to reduce the level of stunting, under-nutrition, anemia and low birth weight babies.

  • Help the Aspirational and Tribal Districts: The scheme will provide “supplementary nutrition in aspirational and tribal districts and districts with high prevalence of anemia.
  • Livelihood Generation: Nutritional Gardens will help in generating awareness among students and youth regarding agriculture. They will also help in livelihood generation for poors who can sell a small part of their products.
  • Achieve Right to Food and SDGs: Right to Food was a statutory right as well as an important part of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the SDGs.
