Provisions for Protection and Empowerment of Women

The Constitution of India has following provisions for protection and empowerment of women and children-

  • Article 15(3): Special provisions for women and children.
  • Article 39: Guarantees equal pay to women for equal work.
  • Article 42: Ensures just and humane conditions of work and maternity relief
  • Article 39 (a): The state shall secure the right to an adequate means for livelihood for men and women.
  • Article 39 (e): The state shall ensure that the health and strength of women are not abused and they are not forced into entering a vocation against their choice due to economic necessities.
  • Article 19 A: Education up to 14 years is a fundamental right. Thus, the state is required to provide school education to children.
  • Article 24: Prohibition on employment of children below 14 years of age in factories and any hazardous occupations.
  • Article 45: Urges the state to provide early childhood care and education for children up to 6 years of age.
