The Supreme Court, through its interim orders in the PUCL Case, 2001 has ascertained that the right to food is a part of the Right to Life under Article 21 of the constitution.
Through this case, Supreme Court has reconfigured specific government food schemes into legal entitlements and has clearly articulated how those government schemes should be implemented.
It has devised accountability mechanisms in event of noncompliance.
