REWARD Project

On 18th February, 2022, the Central Government along with State Governments of Karnataka and Odisha and the World Bank signed loan agreements of 115 million US dollars for the implementation of Rejuvenating Watersheds for Agricultural Resilience through Innovative Development (REWARD) Project.

  • The project aims to help national and state institutions adopt improved watershed management practices to help increase farmers’ resilience to climate change, promote higher productivity and better incomes.
  • The duration of the project will be 6 years.

Expected Impacts/Significance: Transforming Watershed Planning and Execution- Effective watershed management can help enhance livelihoods in rainfed areas, while building a more resilient food system.

  • Comprehensive Spatial Data - It will help in developing and applying comprehensive spatial data and technologies, decision support tools, and knowledge exchanges.
  • Enhancing Productivity - It will enhance productivity and net income of farmers by implementing new science and data-driven approaches for climate resilient in participating states.
  • Providing Sustainable Livelihoods - It will enable multi-cropping and the introduction of diverse agro-based activities, which help to provide sustainable livelihoods to people residing vicinity of watershed areas.
