The Supreme Court (SC), in this case held that VVPAT (Vote Verifiable Paper Audit Trial) is “indispensable for free and fair elections”.

• The Court directed the ECI to equip Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) with VVPAT systems and the government to provide the necessary key financial assistance to the ECI for the same.
