The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR)

The United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) was created in December 1999 to ensure the implementation of the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction.

  • It forms a part of United Nations Secretariat and supports the implementation & review of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

UNDRR’s vision is anchored on the four priorities for action set out in the Sendai Framework:

  1. Priority 1: Understanding disaster risk.
  2. Priority 2: Strengthening disaster risk governance to manage disaster risk.
  3. Priority 3: Investing in disaster risk reduction for resilience.
  4. Priority 4: Enhancing disaster preparedness for effective response and to “Build Back Better” in recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction.

UNDRR coordinates international efforts in Disaster Risk Reduction and prepares reports on the implementation of the Sendai Framework.
