Trincomalee Oil Tank Farm Deal

Recently, Sri Lanka has signed an agreement with an Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) subsidiary to build the Trincomalee oil tank farm, which is intended to strengthen both nations' energy security and pave the way for future economic cooperation. The oil tank farm was built by the British during World War II as a refuelling station

Significance: Easily Accessible: It is located on a deep water natural harbour of Trincomalee.

  • Strategic Location: A well-developed oil storage facility and refinery adjacent to the Trincomalee Port would have enormous economic benefit for both India and Sri Lanka because it is located on one of the world's busiest shipping lanes.
