UNESCO Adds Nordic 'Clinker Boats' on Heritage List

Recently, the U.N.’s culture agency added Nordic “clinker boats” to its list of traditions that represent the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Nordic clinker boats are small, open, wooden boats between five and ten metres long.

Significance: A symbol of common Nordic coastal heritage, where clinker boats were traditionally used for fishing and to transport materials and people. Today, they are primarily used in traditional festivities, regattas and sporting events.
