It was launched in 2018 with the objective of creating a National Database for Persons with Disability (PwDs). It will achieve the objective by issuing Unique Disability ID card along with Disability certificate to beneficiary.
Once it is universalized, it’ll become mandatory to avail benefits in welfare schemes.
The biggest positive of the project is that it will merge the fragmented IDs and just like Aadhar would create a single database and ID to avail benefits under various subheads.
It is administered by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
