Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI)

AWBI is a statutory body established in 1962 with headquarters at Chennai.

  • Its basic mandate is to advise the government on animal welfare issues, and create awareness in animal welfare and to implement the regular schemes of AWBI and also the central sector schemes for the welfare of animals.

Free Mobile Animal Clinic by AWBI

  • The Board provides free, on the spot veterinary treatment to sick and injured animals belonging to poor people through its Mobile Animal Clinic (MAC) programme. It also conducts awareness rallies during World Animal Day Week.
