  • It aims at transforming 500 cities via ensuring universal water supply and substantial improvement in sewerage & seepage management, storm water drainage, green spaces & parks and non-motorized urban transport in Mission cities.
  • As per latest estimates (2019), 5439 projects have been approved. In budgetary allocation, 50% has been allocated to water supply, 42% to sewage and septage projects, 4% to drainage and 2% to non-motorized urban transport and 2% to green spaces and park.
  • Ease of Living Index 2019 and Municipal Performance Index 2019 has been launched to assess the progress made under various schemes for urban development.
  • The issues with AMRUT have been –Non-availability of lands, delay in administrative clearances, shortage of manpower and local resistance.
  • The administration must overcome the stated follies via ensuring smooth and speedy land acquisition, proper information dissemination to clear doubts etc. to ensure success of the mission.
