Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban)

It was launched in 2015 by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs with the objective of providing central assistance to implementing agencies through States/Union Territories (UTs) for providing houses to all eligible families/beneficiaries by 2022.

Components of PMAY (Urban)

  • In-situ Slum Development (erstwhile Rajiv Awas Yojana): Grant of 1 lakh/house is provided.
  • Credit Linked Subsidy Scheme (CLSS): Interest Subsidy is given to certain sections like EWS, LIG, and MIG is provided.
  • Affordable Housing in partnership with public or private sector: Assistance of 1.5 lakh per EWS house is provided (condition 35% houses must be for EWS).
  • Beneficiary led individual house construction (erstwhile Rajiv Rinn Yojana): Assistance of 1.5 lakh per house for individual EWS is provided.
  • As of January 2019, 15,263 project proposals for construction of 72.82 lakh houses have been approved. A total of 38.67 lakh houses have been grounded of which construction for 14.76 lakh are complete and 14.12 lakh are occupied. Under CLSS, 3.77 lakh beneficiaries have availed an interest subsidy of Rs. 8,378 crore.
  • Bhuvan mobile app to Geo-tag stages of house construction, faster administrative clearances, implementation of Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act etc. are some recent measures which would help in expediting the process and achieving the target.
