Climate Change Performance Index, 2022

Climate Change Performance Index 2022 was compiled by German Watch, the New Climate Institute, and the Climate Action Network.

Performance of Countries: The top three places in the overall ranking remain empty as no country has performed well enough to achieve an overall Very High Rating in the CCPI.

  • Denmark is the highest ranked country at 4th Place.

Performance of G20 Countries: The G20 are responsible for about 75% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

  • United Kingdom (7th), India (10th), Germany (13th), and France (17th), are the four G20 countries among the High-performing Countries. Saudi Arabia (63rd) is the worst-performing country among the G20.

Performance of European Union: It is ranked at 22nd.

  • Denmark (4th) and Sweden (5th) are the best-performing EU countries.
  • The Netherlands, performing at the medium levels, is one of the most improved countries since last year.Slovenia, Czech Republic, Poland, and Hungary are among the worst-performing countries.

Components of CCPI

India Related Findings: India is ranked at 10th place.

  • India’s performance was rated High in the GHG Emissions, Energy Use, and Climate Policy categories, and Medium in Renewable Energy.
  • India is on track to meet its 2030 emissions target, close to achieving its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target of a 40% share for non-fossil fuel installed power capacity by 2030, and on course for a targeted 33–35% reduction in energy intensity by the same year.
