FCRA Issue with Missionaries of Charity

The Missionaries of Charity is a Catholic religious congregation established by Nobel laureate Mother Teresa in 1950 to help the poor and destitute.

  • The Union Home Ministry refused to renew the FCRA registration of Missionaries of Charity as “some adverse inputs were noticed.”
  • However, the FCRA registration was later restored, enabling it to collect funds from abroad under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act and utilise the money lying in its around 250 accounts across the country.
