Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) - Sriharikota Range (SHAR)

Located in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh and operated by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), currently it is the only ‘spaceport’ in India. The work on the country’s second spaceport has been started at Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu.

  • It is responsible for providing Launch Base Infrastructure for the Indian Space Programme. The Centre has two launch pads from where the rocket launching operations of PSLV and GSLV are carried out.
  • It was renamed in 2002 after ISRO’s former chairman Satish Dhawan.
