SDG India Index and Dashboard

The third edition of SDG India Index and Dashboard, title as Partnerships in the Decade of Action was released by NITI Ayog in June 2021. It has been released in collaboration with United Nations. It covers 16 Goals on 115 quantitative indicators, with a qualitative assessment on Goal 17.

Key Findings: The country’s overall SDG score improved by 6 points—from 60 in 2019 to 66 in 2020–21. This achievement is largely driven by exemplary country-wide performance in Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation) and Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).

  • Topmost States: Kerala is at top of the rankings with a score of 75, followed by Tamil Nadu (74) and Himachal Pradesh (74).
  • Bottom most States: Bihar (52), Jharkhand (56) and Assam (57) were the worst performing States.
  • Union Territories: Chandigarh is at the top spot among with a score of 79, followed by Delhi (68). Dadar and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu was at the lowest with a score of 62.

Benefits of the Index: It will rank the States and UTs based on their performance across the 16 SDGs on the basis of a composite index, which will promote healthy competition among the States and UTs in their journey towards achieving the SDGs.
