The Farm Laws Repeal Act, 2021

On November 09, 2021 Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the government will repeal three contentious Farm Laws 2020 in the upcoming Parliament session.

  • Later, the Farm Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 was introduced in Lok Sabha on November 29, 2021 by the Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Mr. Narendra Singh Tomar.
  • It was passed by both the Houses on same day (November 29, 2021).

Highlights of the Bill: The new Act repeals the three farm laws passed by Parliament in September 2020 which are:

  1. The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020,
  2. The Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and
  3. The Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
