CIC Ruling on Lokpal
Recently, Central Information Commission (CIC) has refused to allow disclosure of minutes of selection committee meetings to choose the chairperson and members of anti-graft body Lokpal.
CIC Ruling
- The CIC has upheld the withholding of information and refused access to minutes of the meeting of the Selection Committee.
- The CIC relied on the orders of the Supreme Court of March 7, 2019 in a contempt petition filed with respect to the constitution of the Lokpal, to arrive at this conclusion. Supreme Court had also refused to direct the government to provide the said information.
