Black Hole Merger: Mystery Object in Mass Gap
The LIGO Scientific and VIRGO Collaborations (LSC) have detected an unusual compact object whose mass falls in between that of a typical black hole and a neutron star.
New Discovery
- The new study from the National Science Foundation’s Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) and the Virgo detector in Europe, has announced the discovery of a mystery object whose weight lies in the ‘mass gap’.The mystery object is of 2.6 solar masses, placing it firmly in the mass gap.
