Defining Limits of Sedition
Recently, the Supreme Court (SC) noted that it is time to define the limits of sedition.
- The observation was made while dealing with the writ petitions filed by two news channels seeking the quashing of FIR and contempt petitions.
About the Case
- The Andhra Pradesh government had accused News channels TV5 and ABN Andhrajyothi of sedition for reporting news about the pandemic in an “unbiased manner”.
- The news channels blamed the Andhra Pradesh Government for suppressing the Right to Freedom of speech by obstructing the media coverage on the management of Covid-19 in the State.
