Government proposes Amendments to Consumer Protection (E-Commerce) Rules, 2020
On 21st June, 2021, the government issued a set of new draft Consumer Protection (E-commerce) Rules, 2020 that proposes to bar e-commerce companies from allowing any display or promotion of misleading advertisement on their platforms.
- These Rules were first notified in July 2020 in exercise of powers conferred by Section 101(1) (zg) of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019.
- The draft rules will apply to “all models of e-commerce, including marketplace and inventory models of e-commerce”.
