Climate Warming Countdown: Research Predicts Breach of 1.5°C Climate threshold by 2027-2042
According to a study by Climate Change researchers from McGill University, the world will cross the dangerous warming levels at 2027-2042 – 25 years earlier than previous modelling anticipated. The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) had estimated that breach to occur between now and 2052.
Key Observations
- As per the new study, the planet will breach the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels between 2027 and 2042.
- The study uses historical data that reduces prediction uncertainties by about 50 per cent compared with the current modelling being used by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ....
