RBI Re-opens Voluntary Retention Route
On 23rd January, 2020, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) decided to reopen allotment of the investment limit under the revised Voluntary Retention Route (VRR) for debt investments by Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) from January 24th, 2020.
Important Changes Introduced
- The Investment Cap is increased from 75,000 crores to 1,50,000 crore, with a minimum retention period of three years.
- FPIs that have been allotted investment limits under VRR may, at their discretion, transfer their investments made under the General Investment Limit to VRR.
- FPIs are also allowed to invest in Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) that invest only in debt instruments.
