Deaths Due to Lightning Strikes Declined by 37%
According to a report published by the Climate Resilient Observing Systems Promotion Council (CROPC) — a non-profit organisation that works closely with India Meteorological Department, number of deaths due to lightning strikes have reduced in India.
Key Findings
- According to the report, number of deaths due to lightning strikes reduced by nearly 37 per cent, from 2,800 deaths between April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019 to 1,771 during the same period in 2019-20.
- Lightning-linked fatalities formed 33 per cent of total deaths in natural disasters, according to data for the corresponding period in 2019-20.
