UIDAI approves Voluntary Use of Aadhaar for National Populations Register
Recently, UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has given its nod for “voluntary” use of 12-digit unique numbers for compilation of National Population Register (NPR).
Implications
- The NPR updation exercise will be undertaken alongside house listing phase of Census 2021 and will for the first time collect several particulars such as Aadhaar, mobile number, PAN, driving license, Voter ID details and Indian Passport numbers from all usual residents of India.
