Early-stage Findings of the Chang’e-5 Lunar Mission
Recently, at the Europlanet Science Congress (EPSC) 2021, the early-stage findings that use geological mapping to link ‘exotic’ fragments in the collected samples to features near the landing site of China’s Chang’e-5 lunar mission were presented.
Background
- Chang’e 5 lunar mission is the Chinese National Space Administration’s (CNSA) mission that sent a robotic spacecraft to the moon to collect samples and return them to the Earth for scientific study.
- The spacecraft landed on the Moon, retrieved fragments (about 2 kg of sample) of the youngest lunar rocks and returned them to the Earth in December, 2020.
