National Sports Awards 2020

  • President Ram Nath Kovind virtually conferred the National Sports and Adventure Award 2020 on the occasion of National Sports Day (August 29, birth anniversary of hockey legend Major Dhyan Chand).
  • In a first, this year the awards function was held virtually at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, instead of the Rashtrapati Bhavan due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The Selection Committee was headed by Justice (Retd.) Mukundakam Sharma, the former Judge of Supreme Court of India.

Winners of Major Awards

  • Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award: Rohit Sharma (Cricket), MariyappanThangavelu (Para Athletics), Manika Batra (Table Tennis), VineshPhogat (Wrestling), Rani Rampal (Hockey).
