The Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill 2022
On 20th December, 2022, the Lok Sabha referred the Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022 to a joint committee of Parliament.
It proposed to amends the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, 2002.
Need
- As per the present law, enacted 20 years ago, only multi-state cooperative societies can amalgamate themselves and form a new multi-state cooperative society.
Proposed Amendments
Amalgamation of Co-operative Societies
- It allows co-operative societies (registered under state laws) to merge into an existing multi-state co-operative society.
- At least two-thirds of the members of the co-operative society present and voting at a general meeting must pass a resolution to allow ....
