The Advocates (Amendment) Act, 2023
On 8th December, 2023, the President granted assent to the Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
- It repeals the Legal Practitioners Act, 1879 and amended the Advocates Act, 1961.
Need
- Keeping in line with the government’s policy of repealing all obsolete laws or pre-independence Acts that have lost their utility, and in consultation with the Bar Council of India, the government decided to repeal the Legal Practitioners Act and amend the Advocates Act.
