Report on Review of AMRUT Scheme
On 12th December 2025, the Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs presented its report on the review of the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) in the Lok Sabha.
Key Issues and Recommendations
Funding Gaps and Financial Requirements
- The total sanctioned amount under AMRUT and AMRUT 2.0 is about Rs.1.6 lakh crore, which is only 50 percent of the projected requirement.
- Funding for operation and maintenance has been inadequate, reducing the overall efficiency of the mission.
- Recommendations: Enhancing central funding with priority to underserved regions, supporting operation and maintenance by urban local bodies through incentive-based mechanisms.
